Your information on Afiwe

What we collect, why we use it, and how to ask for its removal.

Who handles your information

The Afiwe site owner is responsible for the personal information collected through Afiwe. Browsing comparisons does not require a visitor account. Afiwe does not open financial accounts, take loan or insurance applications, or receive the details you give a provider on its own website.

Contact the Afiwe owner through our Contact form or at news@afiwe.net. If email is unavailable, use the form, which stores your message in the owner’s private inbox. For newsletter requests, tell us the subscription email and the request; do not send identity documents, BVN, PINs, passwords, card or bank details.

Newsletter: what we store and why

Afiwe Monthly asks for your email address, country (Nigeria or Ghana) and affirmative consent. We store the email, country, consent date and confirmation date, plus the version of the consent wording. We use these to confirm your request, record permission and send the country edition you chose. Newsletter signup does not collect your name, phone number or financial details.

Technical subscription identifiers, confirmation nonces and expiry times, and delivery-status records support single-use confirmation, unsubscribe, retries and duplicate-send protection. Short-lived, hashed network-address counters and a hidden bot-trap field help prevent signup abuse; they are not subscriber profiles.

Only confirmed subscriptions can receive monthly issues. Confirmation links expire after seven days. Monthly issues require the owner to review a draft and press Send; confirmation and welcome messages are part of the signup flow when delivery is enabled. If delivery is not yet enabled, a submitted request remains unconfirmed. We do not use newsletter open or click tracking.

How long we keep it

  • Confirmed subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe or the owner removes the subscription.
  • Unconfirmed requests older than 30 days are removed by cleanup on the next eligible startup, wake or request. Background cleanup is throttled to once every four hours; it cannot run while the app is entirely idle. The owner can also run maintenance manually.
  • Deleting a subscription also deletes its linked Afiwe delivery records, including queued messages. It does not delete newsletter drafts, public financial data or other subscribers.
  • Contact-form messages stay in the owner’s private inbox until the owner deletes them; there is currently no automatic expiry for that inbox.

Messages already handed to the email service cannot be recalled. Separate service logs and backups may have their own retention periods; deletion from the active Afiwe subscription database is not a promise of immediate deletion from every service log or backup.

Unsubscribe, correction and deletion

Use the one-click unsubscribe link in any Afiwe email. No login is required. It immediately removes your active subscription and linked queued deliveries. You do not need to contact us first.

If you cannot access that link, or want access, a correction or deletion of other personal information, contact us below. We may need proportionate confirmation that the request concerns your information, but never your financial credentials. Withdrawal does not affect processing lawfully carried out before withdrawal.

Other information and your device

If you use Contact, we store the name, email and message you submit so the owner can read and respond. Please keep sensitive information out of your message. The loan-app checker does not store what visitors search.

Your remembered country, comparison selections and Money Basics badges/progress are stored on your device. The learner’s certificate name stays on the device. You can clear these using your browser’s site-data controls; that can remove your saved course progress. Lesson narration may use your device/browser speech service, or a hosted recording when available.

Owner sign-in uses Clerk authentication and session data. Hosting, authentication and delivery services may process network and security information needed to operate the site. We do not claim that browsing creates no technical logs.

Service providers and outbound links

Afiwe uses hosting, Clerk for owner sign-in, and Resend for email delivery when configured. Services may process information outside your country; we do not promise local-only storage. Ask us about relevant service arrangements and safeguards before submitting information if this concerns you. We limit access to administration and use secure connections, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Provider links normally include site-level tags identifying Afiwe and the page type, not the visitor. They do not add a visitor ID or cookie, and send only the site origin as the referrer. Destinations verified to reject these tags are exempt. Regulator links and source citations are untagged. Once you leave Afiwe, the provider’s own privacy notice applies.

Your rights and applicable laws

We use affirmative consent for the newsletter and necessary operational/security processing to run and protect the site. The applicable legal basis and rights depend on the processing and jurisdiction; we do not treat newsletter consent as permission for unrelated marketing.

  • Nigeria: the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) provides data-protection rights, including access, correction, withdrawal of consent and other rights where applicable. You may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
  • Ghana: the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) provides rights concerning access, correction, consent and objections to processing, subject to the Act. You may complain to Ghana’s Data Protection Commission.
  • European Union / European Economic Area: where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, rights can include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, subject to the relevant conditions. You may withdraw consent and complain to your competent supervisory authority.

Contact us to exercise a right or ask about processing, retention or transfers. This notice describes the current service; it is not a certification or a claim that every jurisdiction’s rules apply to every visitor. We will update it when our practices change.
